VEGEPOLYS' companies projects

These revolve around four technological axes:

  • Innovation and creation of plant varieties
  • Sanitary quality of seeds and plants
  • Plants and health/well being (the antioxidant properties of plants)
  • Urban landscape,

In 2005 and 2006 VEGEPOLYS companies submitted some thirty projects that have been ranked according to certain criteria. Twelve of these have been selected as priority projects (see list below):

In 2006 and 2007, several projects were submitted in response to the call for projects from the central government and Pays de la Loire regional fund and some of these are already enjoying financial backing.

CONDITIONS OF ELIGIBILITY

PROJECT SPONSORS

The entity : projects must be run by a company, but trade associations, laboratories, research establishments, technical centres or professional organisations can also participate. A collective approach is preferred.

Geographical area : project sponsors can be based anywhere on French territory or beyond. Nevertheless, some financial facilities are reserved for entities within the cluster's defined perimeter. In all cases, there must a majority of local participants in the project team.

Membership of VEGEPOLYS : membership of VEGEPOLYS is requiredin order to receive technical accompaniment for the project.

PROJECTS

Purpose : to fall within the competitive cluster's scope, projects should concern research or innovation in the specialist plant field, and be directly linked to the product, or its environment (for example, the production process or marketing).

Definition : the expression "specialised plant" means one used in ornamental horticulture, fruit and vegetables, grape vines, seeds, medicinal and aromatic plants, cider apples, tobacco, mushrooms.

 

PROCEDURE AND FOLLOWING STEPS

Procedure

  1. The idea comes from a company, a research centre, or a training centre

  2. This idea is presented to VEGEPOLYS, at the CTO (Technical orientation comittee), in accordance the guidelines

  3. The idea is accepted and the project begins, managed by Angers Technopole

  4. The project coordinators present their project file to the COSST(Scientific and technical orientation and monitoring comittee, comprising five members of VEGPOLYS board and five research managers.)

Following steps

  1. The project is referred for external assessment by scientific and financial experts.

  2. A summary of the expert's finding is presented to the VEGEPOLYS board, who decide whether or not to endorse the project.

  3. the approved project is proposed to selection of potential backers.
 

As part of the project accompaniment procedure, all parties involved sign an agreement committing them to the strictest confidentiality. The projects are assessed according to criteria defined in the project proposal outline.
